November 2024 Postcard
'The only time I ever wear burgundy nail polish and berry lipstick, the phase where I’m still enjoying my winter coat, the thrill of frosty mornings without having yet slipped on black ice...'
Hello November friends
How are you finding these months?
I love this time of year, I love this time of year more than actual Christmas. The anticipation, the planning, the lists.
The only time I ever wear burgundy nail polish and berry lipstick, the phase where I’m still enjoying my winter coat, the thrill of frosty mornings without having yet slipped on black ice, the starry eyed love of soups and stews before I’d rather eat anything else but.
I relish it, I live my own personal version of Ali McGraw frolicking through Autumn/Winter in Love Story (before she dies, touch wood).
There are of course the stickier aspects, such as taking two million years and five months to prepare my children for the arctic before we leave the house each day. Losing my slippers as a state of high emergency. Typing in fingerless gloves.
But the rest is what helps me bury my head in the sand about January-April darkness and all the outdoor plants I sacrificed to the first frost.

What I’m reading:
I have a new FREE subscription for you!
Have you heard of Readly? I hadn’t, but I’ve just discovered it and it’s a fantastic idea.
Thousands of publications in one place: Vogue, The Observer, Grazia, Film, The Independent, Elle, Good Housekeeping…. They’re all there.
I have a link for two months free subscription, just click here.
Monthly subscription is usually £12.99 so two months is…nice?
(Transparency: this is an affiliate link, which means that with each free subscription you sign up for, I earn a nominal fee)
What I’m watching:
Schitt’s Creek. I could watch this forever and a day and still laugh out loud and see new things in it every single time. I love it so much. Am I Moira? Am I David? Am I Ray?
In truth, I think I’m a hairy combination of The Motel and Rose Apothecary.
What I’m eating:
Feta cheese with everything.
What I’m taking:
Loads of stuff, but my favourite of all is Tonic Tribe CBD Oil. I now think it helps me be a better parent. I experience sensory overload very easily, and this has helped enormously.
If you or anyone you know may be feeling anxiety overload this season, I cannot point you in this direction enough.
Use my code java20 for 20% off at checkout
(Transparency: not an ad, I just love it and Kate at Tonic Tribe)
What I’m listening to:
This November playlist from last year.
I’ll be off now.
And again, thank you so much to my paid substack subscribers, it means so very much, both to my brain, and to my bank balance.
See you soon,
Love Java x
